Are you ready to put away all your snow tools? You’ve done all those things to winter proof your house and car to keep you and your family safe and avoid insurance claims due to the cold and winter damage.  Now here comes the ground hog looking for his shadow. Will we have another six weeks of winter or is spring close by?

According to tradition, Groundhog Day is a traditional, unofficial holiday originating in the U.S. and is celebrated on February 2. If it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow and the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow, then the spring season will arrive early, sometime before the; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow, retreat back into its den, and winter weather will persist for six more weeks. But any way you look it, spring officially arrives March 20. Hopefully, we’ll get warmer weather soon.

While you’re waiting for spring and that warm weather, here are some things you can do to make sure you’re prepared for the change in seasons.

  • Vehicle Inpection
Check your car for any winter damage and make sure it’s ready for warmer weather. Give it a through car wash, check all of the vehicle’s fluid levels as well as the condition of the tires. Don’t forget your car’s AC and belts and hoses. Winter can be hard on your car’s battery, too.
  • Home Maintenance
Here's some helpful information from Travelers Insurance. Don't forget your HVAC tune up and check the condition of your gutters. Have your air conditioner serviced to make sure it’s ready for the warm weather.  Check the condition of your roof and gutters and have any water or ice damage repaired
  • Yard Clean Up
Check out these tips from Erie. Now is the perfect time to clean up the yard debris left behind by winter storms and get your yard and flower/vegetable garden beds ready for spring planting – before it gets too warm to work outside comfortably.
  • Plan Ahead
This is also a great time of year to go through all those seed catalogs you recently received and are piling up, or check out all those travel deals you’ve been hearing so much about. 2017 might be the year to take that dream vacation.
